Ingredients
For the bites:
-
1 prepared angel food cake (store-bought or homemade)
-
Vegetable oil for frying
For the coating:
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
1½ tsp ground cinnamon
For the optional dip:
-
½ cup chocolate chips
-
¼ cup heavy cream
Instructions
1️⃣ Cut the cake: Slice the angel food cake into 1-inch cubes. Try to keep them uniform for even frying.
2️⃣ Heat the oil: In a large pot or deep skillet, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
3️⃣ Fry the cubes: In batches, fry the cake cubes for 30–60 seconds, turning gently until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
4️⃣ Drain: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
5️⃣ Coat in cinnamon sugar: While still warm, roll the bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
6️⃣ Make the dip (optional): Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan or microwave just until steaming. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
7️⃣ Serve: Serve warm with the chocolate dip on the side or drizzle on top.
