Description

These Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy, smoky twist on the classic comfort food. Ground chicken is simmered in a tangy, flavorful sauce with bell peppers and Cajun spices, then piled high on toasted buns. Quick, easy, and full of Southern flair!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • ½ onion, finely chopped

  • ½ green bell pepper, finely chopped

  • ½ red bell pepper, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • ¾ cup tomato sauce

  • 2 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1½ tsp Cajun seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: red pepper flakes for extra heat

  • 4 burger buns, toasted

  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, pepper jack cheese

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the chicken: In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Cook ground chicken until no longer pink, breaking it up with a spatula.

2️⃣ Sauté veggies: Add onion and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and tomato paste; cook 1 more minute.

3️⃣ Simmer the sauce: Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, Cajun seasoning, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.

4️⃣ Toast the buns: While the filling simmers, toast burger buns until golden.

5️⃣ Assemble and serve: Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the buns. Top with slaw, pickles, or cheese if desired. Serve hot!

Notes

  • Adjust Cajun spice level to taste, or use a store-bought blend.
