Easy Chinese Ground Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry

Description

Savory ground beef, tender cabbage, and a rich, umami-packed sauce come together in this quick Chinese-inspired stir fry — perfect for a healthy dinner in under 30 minutes!


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (or vegetable oil)

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced

  • 4 cups green cabbage, shredded

  • 1 medium carrot, julienned or thinly sliced

  • 3 green onions, sliced (plus extra for garnish)

  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp chili garlic sauce (optional, for heat)

  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (optional for thicker sauce)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)


Instructions

1️⃣ Brown the beef:
Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.

2️⃣ Add aromatics:
Stir in minced garlic, ginger, and green onions. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

3️⃣ Cook the veggies:
Add shredded cabbage and carrots. Stir fry for 4–5 minutes, or until cabbage starts to soften but still has a little crunch.

4️⃣ Make the sauce:
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and chili garlic sauce. Pour the sauce into the pan and toss to coat everything evenly.

5️⃣ Optional thickening:
If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 1–2 minutes until thickened.

 

6️⃣ Finish and serve:
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish with extra green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot, on its own or over steamed rice or cauliflower rice.

Notes

  • Substitute ground chicken, turkey, or pork if desired.

 

  • Add mushrooms, bell peppers, or snap peas for extra veggies.
