Ingredients
-
12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
-
2 cups crushed Hot Cheetos (about 1 small bag)
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
3 large eggs
-
1 tbsp water
-
Vegetable oil, for frying
-
Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Prep the coating: Place the Hot Cheetos in a food processor and pulse until finely crushed. Transfer to a shallow bowl. Put the flour in a separate shallow bowl. In a third bowl, whisk together eggs and water.
2️⃣ Prepare the cheese sticks: Cut each mozzarella stick in half for smaller portions if desired. Freeze the sticks for at least 30 minutes to prevent melting too quickly during frying.
3️⃣ Coat the sticks:
-
Dredge each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.
-
Dip into the egg mixture, then roll thoroughly in the crushed Hot Cheetos, pressing gently to adhere.
4️⃣ Double coat for extra crunch: Repeat the egg and Hot Cheeto coating once more for a thicker crust.
5️⃣ Fry the sticks: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes or until golden and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
6️⃣ Serve: Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
-
Freezing the mozzarella sticks is key to prevent cheese from oozing out too quickly.
-
For a baked version, place coated sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 8-10 minutes until crispy.
-
You can swap Hot Cheetos with Flamin’ Hot Doritos or any spicy crunchy snack for variation.
