Description

These Hot Honey Fried Shrimp are crispy, juicy, and tossed in a sweet-spicy glaze that packs a punch. Perfect for game day, appetizers, or a flavorful main dish with a Southern-inspired kick!

Ingredients

Scale

For the shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • ½ cup buttermilk

  • 1 tsp hot sauce

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup cornstarch

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Oil for frying

For the hot honey glaze:

  • ¼ cup honey

  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes

  • ½ tsp apple cider vinegar (optional, for balance)

Instructions

1️⃣ Marinate the shrimp: In a bowl, toss shrimp with buttermilk and hot sauce. Let sit for 10–15 minutes.

2️⃣ Prepare breading: In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

3️⃣ Dredge the shrimp: Remove shrimp from marinade, letting excess drip off. Dredge in the flour mixture, pressing to coat well.

4️⃣ Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or fryer. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

5️⃣ Make hot honey: In a small saucepan, heat honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, and vinegar (if using) until just warmed. Stir well.

6️⃣ Toss and serve: Drizzle or toss fried shrimp with the hot honey sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Serve with ranch or blue cheese for dipping.

  • Great over rice bowls, in tacos, or on a salad.

  • Adjust spice level with more or less hot sauce and pepper flakes.
