Ingredients
For the shrimp:
-
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
-
½ cup buttermilk
-
1 tsp hot sauce
-
¾ cup all-purpose flour
-
¼ cup cornstarch
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp paprika
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Oil for frying
For the hot honey glaze:
-
¼ cup honey
-
1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
-
½ tsp red pepper flakes
-
½ tsp apple cider vinegar (optional, for balance)
Instructions
1️⃣ Marinate the shrimp: In a bowl, toss shrimp with buttermilk and hot sauce. Let sit for 10–15 minutes.
2️⃣ Prepare breading: In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
3️⃣ Dredge the shrimp: Remove shrimp from marinade, letting excess drip off. Dredge in the flour mixture, pressing to coat well.
4️⃣ Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or fryer. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
5️⃣ Make hot honey: In a small saucepan, heat honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, and vinegar (if using) until just warmed. Stir well.
6️⃣ Toss and serve: Drizzle or toss fried shrimp with the hot honey sauce. Serve immediately.
