Jerk Fried Chicken: An Amazing Ultimate Recipe

  • Author: Chef Ethan Sam
  • Total Time: 48 minute

Ingredients

– 4 to 6 chicken pieces (legs, thighs, or breasts)
– 2 tablespoons jerk seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
– 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
– 1 teaspoon salt
– ½ teaspoon black pepper
– ½ teaspoon garlic powder
– ½ teaspoon onion powder
– 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar)
– 1 cup all-purpose flour (for coating)
– ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
– Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

Instructions

Creating Jerk Fried Chicken is straightforward if you follow these steps:

1. Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the jerk seasoning, olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Coat the chicken pieces thoroughly with this marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours or overnight for maximum flavor.

2. Prepare the Buttermilk: In another bowl, pour the buttermilk. This will help tenderize the chicken further and create a beautiful crust.

3. Combine Flour and Spices: In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour, cayenne pepper (if using), and additional salt and pepper to taste.

4. Dredge the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade and let any excess drip off. Dip each piece into the buttermilk, allowing it to coat well, and then dredge in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated.

5. Heat the Oil: In a large frying pan or deep skillet, pour enough oil to cover the bottom (about 1 to 2 inches deep) and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).

6. Fry the Chicken: Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, being mindful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches if necessary. Cook for about 7-10 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).

7. Drain Excess Oil: Once the chicken is cooked, transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

8. Rest the Chicken: Allow the fried chicken to rest for about 10 minutes. This helps the juices settle and enhances flavor.
