  • Total Time: 1 hr

Description

This classic apple crisp features tender, cinnamon-spiced baked apples topped with a buttery, crunchy oat topping. It’s a simple, comforting dessert perfect for cozy nights and showcasing the warm flavors of fall.

Ingredients

Scale

For the filling:

  • 6 cups peeled, sliced apples (Granny Smith or your favorite baking apples)

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

For the topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ⅔ cup packed brown sugar

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2️⃣ In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.

3️⃣ In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the topping resembles coarse crumbs.

4️⃣ Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.

5️⃣ Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and tender.

6️⃣ Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for more complex flavor.

  • Add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the topping for extra crunch.

  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
